DRVC Italy 2027
A Catholic Journey to Assisi, Rome & Vatican City
August 1–9, 2027 | 9 Days
Assisi • Rome • Vatican City
Optional Sorrento & Amalfi Coast Extension | August 8–12, 2027
Italy has a remarkable way of bringing faith, history, and beauty together. Ancient basilicas rise above lively piazzas, centuries-old streets lead to extraordinary works of art, and the stories of saints and martyrs come alive in the very places where they lived, prayed, and changed the course of Christianity. From the peaceful hills of Assisi to the magnificent churches of Rome and the heart of Vatican City, this is a journey through some of the most meaningful places in our Catholic tradition.

Afar & Away Travel has designed this nine-day pilgrimage exclusively for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, bringing together spiritual discovery, remarkable history, Italian culture, and the joy of traveling in community. We'll walk in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare, visit the tomb of St. Carlo Acutis, explore the great papal basilicas of Rome, and discover the treasures of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Our journey also includes anticipated opportunities to participate in the Wednesday Papal Audience and Sunday Angelus, subject to the Holy Father's official schedule. Faith is at the heart of this experience. Holy Mass will be celebrated daily, with opportunities for prayer, reflection, and fellowship woven throughout our travels. We'll visit the early Christian catacombs, stand before the original icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, ascend the Holy Stairs, and discover sacred places associated with some of the Church's most beloved saints. Our accommodations have also been selected with purpose, including six nights at Il Cantico, a Franciscan hotel near Vatican City whose hospitality supports the Order's charitable and missionary work around the world. But a pilgrimage to Italy is also an opportunity to experience the warmth and beauty of Italian life. We'll enjoy memorable meals with wine, wander through historic neighborhoods, admire Rome's magnificent monuments, and leave time for gelato, shopping, sidewalk cafés, and discoveries of our own. With thoughtfully planned sightseeing, comfortable accommodations, and opportunities for independent exploration, our journey offers a balance of meaningful spiritual experiences and the simple pleasures that make Italy so unforgettable. For those wishing to continue their Italian adventure, our optional Sorrento and Amalfi Coast extension adds four nights to the journey, including three nights in beautiful Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace, choose an optional boat excursion along the spectacular Amalfi Coast or a visit to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, and conclude with a memorable visit to the historic Abbey of Monte Cassino, associated with St. Benedict. This is Italy beyond the ordinary—a journey of faith, friendship, discovery, and inspiration. An opportunity to deepen our connection to the Church, experience the extraordinary beauty of Italy, and return home with memories and friendships that will last long after our pilgrimage ends.
Explore the information below to discover everything that awaits on this unforgettable journey of faith through Italy—from the peaceful hills of Assisi and the sacred treasures of Rome to the magnificent basilicas of Vatican City, with the opportunity to continue to beautiful Sorrento and the spectacular Amalfi Coast.
